ECO-Council

At Clayton Brook School, we have a proactive Eco-Council that is fully engaged in planning and delivering initiatives to improve our school and help protect the planet. The council works together to encourage sustainable practices, inspire others to care for the environment, and make a positive difference both within our school and in the wider community.

Rationale for Our Climate Action Plan:

Developing a Climate Action Plan allows us to take meaningful steps toward reducing our environmental impact, while inspiring children to lead by example in their communities. By embedding sustainability into our daily practices, we demonstrate our commitment to protecting the planet for future generations. This plan provides a clear framework for action—helping us to cut carbon emissions, conserve resources, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship across the school.

How are we putting the plan into action?

Everybody has a part to play-

Pupils – will lead campaigns and take part in gardening and eco activities.

Staff –weaving sustainability into lessons. Modelling eco friendly behaviours and supporting initiatives such as active travel and waste reduction.

Families – join in with uniform, book and toys swaps and by helping children walk, cycle or scoot to school.

Governors and Leadership – ensure sustainability is at the centre of schools decisions.

Summer Term 2026

Our annual Farmers’ Market was a great success!

A huge thank you to all our families and staff at Clayton Brook School for supporting Eco-Council. Together, we raised £129.10, which will be used to buy new plants, seeds and gardening tools for next year.

We are incredibly proud of Eco-council for all their hard work and look forward to welcoming our new Eco Committee in September. Thank you for continued support.

Eco Council News

Eco-Council have had a busy week! On Monday, Biffa helped us with a community litter pick. We found less litter in our school grounds than in the community garden outside the gates.

Eco-Council’s message is: “Please put your litter in the bin or take it home.”

On Thursday, the Warriors attended a Sustainability Conference and learned lots about helping the planet. Their behaviour was exceptional, and they were a credit to the school.

Each class will receive a miniature garden pot courtesy of the Eco-Council fund. These will help attract bees and butterflies, and we have chosen a mixture of sensory plants, herbs, and strawberry plants that can also be used in cooking

The Eco-Council had the great pleasure of meeting the Mayor and Mayoress of Chorley at the grand opening of the Clayton Brook Community Garden. It was a lovely and memorable event, where the children demonstrated impressive maturity and enthusiasm. They were excellent ambassadors for our school. We look forward to working with Clayton Brook Bloomin’ Buddies and Chorley Council to help create a thriving, natural space for our community.

We’ve received some new gardening tools and a watering can from the Mayor, so we’d better make good use of them!

Community Garden

During Gardening Club on Monday the Warriors worked with Michelle (Local Councillor) to create our Community Garden . We’ve planted some sunflowers and started vegetable patch so we the community will enjoy watching everything grow. The. Community are very proud of this area so we are excited to see future developments.

Spring Term

We would like to say a big thank you to all the families who took part in our Easter Egg Decoration Competition. Over the past week, your wonderful creations have made our entrance look beautifully spring-like.

Our judge, Jo (Asda’s Community Champion), was incredibly impressed with all the entries. She commented that every creation was imaginative and unique—what a fantastic achievement! Well done to everyone who participated.

The Eco-Council has launched our Egg Carton Easter Decoration Competition—happy creating! We are egg-cited to see all your amazing creations

Gardening Club this week, we have been busy potting spider plants, ready for the school to nurture and enjoy. We also planted sunflower seeds, which will be given to each classroom to help create a small potted garden outside their doors.

This is a wonderful way to encourage biodiversity around our school, attracting pollinators such as bumblebees and butterflies. The children showed great care and enthusiasm, and we look forward to watching everything grow!

The warriors were eager to begin the process of chitting, carefully preparing the potatoes so they are ready for planting. We are now nearly ready to get them into the ground and start the growing process.

Fingers crossed we have an even more successful crop this year! We are looking forward to watching them grow and learning more about how our food is produced.

To help celebrate World Book Day, the Eco-Council organised a whole school book swap.

Our warriors are always thinking of different ways to help care for and protect our planet, and this was a fantastic way to reuse and share books while promoting a love of reading.

Thank you to everyone who took part and supported this initiative — it was wonderful to see so many children excited to choose a “new” book.

The Eco-Warriors have launched an Eco-Promise for the school. This week classes are discussing their Eco-Promise, next week they will be displayed on our Eco Board. Next half term on a weekly basis the warriors will class and monitor their progress.
